Type in lowercase. Capital letters carry meaning: A I U E O are long vowels, T Th D Dh N are retroflex, Sh is ष, L is ळ/ള, R is ऱ/റ, M is anusvara and H visarga. Use _ to stop two letters joining, as in ka_i for कइ. In the South Indian scripts e and o are short and E, O are long. Diacritic input such as ā ṭ ś ṣ ṇ ḻ also works.
